Match Five

Match Five is a word puzzle. You get five words and five clues at a time, and the catch is that every word honestly fits more than one clue. The answer is the single arrangement where all five words land on a clue at once.

How to play

  • You are given five words and five clue slots at a time.
  • Drag each word onto the clue it matches. "Rose" fits "Red" — but it also fits "Flower", so the trick is finding the arrangement where every word still has a clue left.
  • Fill all five slots correctly to clear the set and unlock the next one.
  • Stuck? Pull words back out and start the set fresh; the answer is a matter of elimination, not luck.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of puzzle is Match Five?

A word-association and deduction puzzle. If you like NYT Connections or other word-grouping games, Match Five is the same family: the challenge comes from words that belong to more than one category, so you reason out the one consistent set of matches.

Is Match Five free?

Yes. It plays in your browser with no download, no account, and no payment.

How do I win a level?

Match all five words to the correct clues at the same time. Because each word fits several clues, you usually have to revise earlier guesses before every slot is right.
